The first pre-season testing for the Volkswagen Motorsport India Ameo Cup took place at the Kari Motor Speedway located in Coimbatore. This is the first time the drivers meet with their beasts. The day started with a briefing session carried out by the Indian motorsport veteran Rayomand Banajee for the drivers. Rayomond Banajee will be the drivers’ coach during the Ameo Cup.
The briefing session included thorough information on the Kari Motor Speedway, about its turns, kerbs, apexes, braking points, and other critical elements of the track.
The drivers then got the first on track experience by driving the previous Polo Cup and Vento Cup cars. This session was conducted for the drivers to get real rack feel and to learn & understand the apexes and braking points. Coach Rayomond Banajee started the session by leading individual drivers for couple of laps showing the perfect racing lines of the Kari Motor Speedway. Rayomond monitored each of the drivers’ racing line, braking point and other factors, and instantly sent them feedback for correction. This session was conducted till the lunch.
After the lunch, drivers got their first taste of their new factory fresh Ameo cars. This year’s Ameo cup car is equipped with Motec electronics, which is why the session started with the engineers demonstrating the basics of the cars electronics and other essential car elements to the drivers. After the knowledge exchange session between the engineer and the drivers, the drivers take their respective cars to the track. The drivers bagged quiet a handful laps in order build up their understanding with the car and its behavior.
The weather was mostly bright and sunny, later there were some gusty winds to make the situation more tricky which allowed drivers to get used to the additional aero on the Ameo.
Beside Coach Rayomond Banajee, Volkswagen Motorsport India’s development and test driver, Karthik Tharani and previous Volkswagen Vento Cup champion Ishaan Dodhiwala was present at the track for sharing their knowledge with the drivers for bettering their skills.
