Meet Shelby American’s 2017 Shelby Super Snake, a wide body version of the 6th Gen Ford Mustang.
For the time being it’s a concept, however, Shelby has clearly indicated that a production version is not very far into the future. Given the reputation of past wide-body touches from Shelby, that is nothing out of the blue. Who can tell, maybe Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is in the pipeline for a similar treatment!
The Ford Shelby Super Snake’s wide body and the design of the concept are – and forgive me for the lack of a better word – incredibly sexy. The car’s muscular shape adds an additional 4.0 inches added to the rear track and 2.5 inches to the front.
Appearing as if it came straight from the production line, the pumped fender with vents combine perfectly with the broadened impression of the typical Mustang, further complementing the strong, muscular, and mean-looking car. Furthermore, avoiding the edges of the car is a full aero kit that further amps the true appeal of the design.
Shelby didn’t keep its touch only for the looks. Beginning with its Mustang GT-based Super Snake 50th Anniversary Edition, Shelby engineers included a completely adjustable coil over suspension; hardened wheel studs; and installed stronger spindles and hubs, a spectacular Brembo braking system (16-inch disk front; 14-inch rear), wider wheels wrapped with Michelin tires (11×20-inch front; 12.5×20-inch rear) together improves handling and driving experience. As indicated by Shelby, the overall package facilitates late braking and early throttle out of corners. The car is said to be more track-oriented and hence to perform better on tracks.
The Shelby’s Super Snake will be powered by the super-charged version of the Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter V-8. Purchasers can choose from either 670HP or 750HP engines of this brawny beast.
On Saturday, Shelby will formally exhibit the concept at its yearly Carroll Shelby Tribute & Car Show at the company’s Southern California facility.
