Hennessey Venom GT Spyder Claims World’s Fastest Convertible Beating Bugatti

Bugatti’s Veyron Super Sport Vitesse’s record for the fastest convertible -254 mph (408.7 km/h), is now shattered by The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder which obtained a top speed of 265.6 mph (427.4 km/h) at Lemoore Naval Air Station in California. Texas born company set this record to make their 25th anniversary a special one.

Based on Lotus Elise, the new Venom GT is powered by a twin-turbo 7-litre V8 engine that produces whooping 1,451 horsepower and 1,745 Nm of torque. The heart of the Venom GT is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and the power is delivered to the rear wheels.

All this power makes the Venom GT capable of hitting 0-100 km/h in less than 2.4 seconds and according to the company when tested the car did 0-321 km/h in less than 13 seconds.

The Venomg GT Spyder was driven by Ford Performance Racing School director Brian Smith for the speed record. Data recording was performed by Racelogic hardware, and Racelogic technical director Jim Lau certified the record. Commander Darren Fouts, Air Operations Officer, served as witness.

Now, lets wait for a move from Bugatti. And Koenigsegg. or someone else!
