The 2015 Singapore Grand Prix saw the Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel take the win after holding on to the lead from start to finish. Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo finished behind him in second place and Kimi Raikkonen took third. But this race possessed so much more than just Ferrari dominating the pack.
After having a disappointing qualifying by both the Mercedes, there was more drama for the team as Lewis Hamilton had to retire from the race due to a turbo boost failure. Nico Rosberg couldn’t do any better than finish fourth behind Raikkonen.
The first safety car came out when Felipe Massa made contact with Nico Hulkenburg and put him into the wall while Massa was exiting the pit lane. To Force India’s surprise, Hulkenburg had been issued with a 3 place grid penalty for next Sunday’s race at Suzuka, Japan.
The safety car had to come in play again shortly after Hamilton retired as a 27 year old fan took the decision to come out on the track and take a stroll. The spectator had soon been arrested.
It was disappointment for McLaren Honda as both Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button had to retire from the race. Alonso had to retire due to a gearbox issue and Button had to retire after making contact with the Lotus of Pastor Maldonado.
The driver of the race looked to be the 17 year old Max Verstappen. Verstappen, who was a lap behind early on, was helped by the Safety Car but it was still another strong performance from the youngster – although he ignored a team order to let Toro Rosso team mate Carlos Sainz past in the closing stages.
And last but by no means least, F1 debutant Alexander Rossi finished in 14th place, two laps down but ahead of Manor team-mate Will Stevens.
