The second season of the Formula E championship was already looking like one not to miss and now that’s never been truer since the recent announcement from the FIA that the electric powered race cars will have more power at the drivers disposal when the series returns in October. The cars previously had a maximum power in race mode of 150kw for the first season, but now that has been increased to 170kw. Of course the maximum power during quali’s and practices will still be retained at 200kw and the 28kwh limit on energy delivered to the powertrain by the RESS will still be place. Williams Advance Engineering, who supply the batteries for Formula E conducted several tests on increasing the power by 30% and deemed it possible to run more power during race sessions and have also been working on ways to upgrade components without harming reliability. These changes will ensure even more intense racing and speed than in the previous year.

You will be able to catch this new power increase in action when the 2015/16 season starts on the 24th October in Beijing (the start date received a week delay at the request of Beijing authorities).
